SUFFOLK COUNTY SPCA MAKES GRUSOME DISCOVERY
AT SELDEN HOME
In what was described as a scene from a horror movie, Suffolk County SPCA Detectives, yesterday, un-earthed the bodies of 20 dead animals, presumed to be dogs, from the back yard of a Selden home.
Roy Gross, Chief of the Suffolk County SPCA, said that Suffolk County SPCA Agents, assisted by members of the Selden Fire Department, dug up the carcasses at 18 Awixa Place, Selden. "The sickening smell was sometimes overpowering to our officers and the firefighters," Gross said, who were working under a massive lighting system set up by the fire department and officers from Suffolk County Police Emergency Services.
Suffolk County SPCA officers were first at the house Thursday night after receiving a tip from the group Rescue Ink, and removed five dogs, one cat, a hamster and a parakeet. The live animals, some severely neglected, were living in small cages with feces and urine with no food or water. Sharon McDonough (photo above), of 18 Awixa Place, was charged with six counts of Animal Cruelty. Chief Gross said the investigation is continuing and further charges may be considered after a necropsy is performed on the dead animals.
